MAJOR DHYANCHAND INSTITUTE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Department of Physical Education and Sports is a central facility department of Barkatullah University. The department started the Physical Education course in 1995 in the name of the “Hockey Wizard” Major Dhyanchand on his birth date, 29 August 1995, which is celebrated as National Sports Day. The Institute is recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education, Western Regional Committee. Code No. 214006. The institute provides quality physical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed.) and offers sufficient facilities and opportunities for players to achieve excellence in various sports and games. The Institute has adequate infrastructure and facilities for training and preparing sports personnel. It has its own building with modern facilities required for physical education, such as Anatomy Laboratory, Physiology Laboratory, Sports Medicine Unit, and Health Laboratory.
The Institute has 60 acres of land with well-equipped playgrounds for Hockey, Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Handball, Basketball, Athletics, Boxing, and a large hall with facilities for indoor games (Badminton, Table Tennis, Judo, Wrestling, and Gymnastics). The Institute also has an Athletics Track.
The Institute runs a Gymnasium with modern exercise equipment. It is the only institute in the state offering Adventure Sports training such as parasailing, kayaking, rowing, rafting, and rock-climbing.
The Institute has produced national and international players in Hockey, Cricket, Judo, Taekwondo, Athletics, Wrestling, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, and Handball. Quality training and education at the University have led to almost 100% placement for students. The Institute has qualified faculty members to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and research facilities leading to Ph.D. degrees are also available.
